Assemblers write low-level code to optimize system performance, handle critical processes, and interact with hardware directly.
Job Description:
We are looking for a seasoned Mainframe Assembler Developer to join our legacy systems team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM Mainframe environments, particularly in Assembler (HLASM) programming, with strong experience in maintaining and enhancing existing mainframe applications. This role is critical for ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our mission-critical mainframe systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, debug, and maintain applications using IBM Assembler (HLASM) in a mainframe environment.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and functionality issues in existing Assembler code.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Optimize legacy systems and participate in efforts to modernize or integrate them with newer platforms.
- Write and maintain technical documentation, including code comments, design specs, and test plans.
- Participate in code reviews, system audits, and provide input for continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with security standards and data integrity requirements.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in IBM Mainframe technologies with strong expertise in Assembler (HLASM) programming.
- Solid understanding of z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and utilities like IDCAMS, IEBCOPY, IEBGENER.
- Experience working with VSAM, DB2, or other mainframe data storage systems.
- Strong debugging and performance tuning skills using tools like Xpediter, Abend-AID, or IBM Debug Tool.
- Familiarity with mainframe batch processing and online systems (e.g., CICS, IMS).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and understand complex legacy code with minimal documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with migration or modernization projects involving mainframe systems.
- Knowledge of COBOL, PL/I, or other mainframe languages is a plus.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices or mainframe integration with modern platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
